KONTEXTE ‘Hello World’ LP

“Hello World”—that is the simple, direct introduction the four members of Kontexte offer us. Direct, just like their organic music. Clara, Liza, Laure, and Laura have built a flamboyant castle, composed as much of festive, rock-infused, joyful drawing rooms as of melancholic boudoirs. Its foundations are built on strong friendships, wittiness, and a shared worldview that champions poetry, tipsiness, and guilty (or innocent) pleasures in the face of an absurd world.
Their “no wave” from western France—though closely related to the music of the “triple alliance de l’est” —brings a breath of fresh air reminiscent of bands from Siltbreeze, K Records, or Rough Trade circa 1979. Imagine The Slits without the reggae, Lizzy Mercier Descloux without the disco, Beat Happening with less pop, or Badaboum without the chamois: et voilà… Listen to Kontexte, steal a roast beef from Monoprix!
